Butterfly and Birds Trip

TRIP SUMMARY

PLACES TO VISIT​

  • Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks. 

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, meet & greet by your driver guide and proceed to accommodation about 7 minutes away.

Overnight at Lake Victoria View Guest House (Bed and Breakfast)

Day 2: Drive to Mabira Forest

Breakfast at leisure and then we proceed for a drive to Mabira forest. We will stop for some bird/butterfly breaks as soon as the habitat start offering the opportunity alongside the road.

Dinner and overnight at The Rain Forest Lodge (Full Board).                         

Day 3: Mabira Forest

After breakfast, we will start looking for opportunities for photograph chances as we wait for the right moment after the sun comes out to try the butterflies as well. Lunch at the lodge and then later, we head out again if we so wish. We will be looking out for birds like African Dwarf Kingfisher, Barbets and Tinkerbirds, Green-tailed Bristlebill, Apalises, Wattle-eyes, Finches among many others and when LUCKY, Nahans’s Francolin and Tit Hylia.

Butterflies like Soldier Pansy, Common Diadem, Blue Sailor, Common

Leopard, among others.

Dinner and overnight at The Rain Forest Lodge (Full Board).

Day 4: Mabira Forest Then Transfer to Kampala

Second day in Mabira forest and so same routine but may be a different site of the forest. Lunch at the lodge and then later, transfer back towards Kampala.

Dinner and overnight at Capitol Hill (Full Board). 

Day 5: Drive to Mpanga Forest

After breakfast, drive to Mpanga forest to look for different species of both birds and butterflies

Dinner and overnight at Capitol Hill (Full Board).                

Day 6: Drive to Fort Portal.

Today After breakfast, we will proceed for a long drive to Fort Portal stopping at every photographic opportunity that will present itself.

Day 7: Semliki National Park

After breakfast with our packed lunch, we proceed for the drive to Semliki National Park driving along the Rwenzori Mountain lower ranges getting there in good time to start another bird/butterfly photographic day. With a hide, there is a spot when one is likely to get top end photographs of Orange-cheeked Waxbill among other finches, Waxbills among other birds. Other special species in the forest include African Dwarf Kingfisher, Yellow-throated Cuckoo, Hornbills, Tinkerbirds, Greenbuls, Negritas, aka Blackfinches among others

Dinner and overnight Kalya Courts (Full Board).

Day 8: Semliki National Park

Day two in Semliki National Park so same routine. After breakfast with our packed lunch, we proceed for the drive to Semliki National Park driving along the Rwenzori Mountain lower ranges getting there in good time to start another butterfly photographic day.  Butterflies here include Forest Mother of Pearl, Common Yellow Glider, Large Yellow, Yellow Caper White, Jodutta Glider, etc.

Or! Depending on how we will have seen the situation in Semliki, we will pick between going back to Semliki or heading to Kibale National Park, which is one of the rain forests in Uganda famous for its primates. It is home to 13 primate species making it the number one protected area with the biggest primate numbers on the African continent.

Day 9: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, we start on the drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park where we will break our journey from stopping at any photographic opportunity

Dinner and overnight Enganzi Lodge (Full Board).

Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi

After breakfast, we start our drive to Bwindi Impenetrable forest with stops along Ishasha road whenever a bird/butterfly photographic opportunity comes up. Look out for species like Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Greenbuls, Chubb’s Cisticola, Grey-capped Warbler, Grey-backed Camaroptera, Flycatchers, Brown-throated Wattle-eye, Sunbirds, Weavers among others tend to present themselves.  Dinner and overnight at Ride 4 A Woman (Full Board).

Day 11: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, we will start looking for opportunities for photographs as we walk along the main trail that used to be a road through the forest to the southern part of Bwindi. Look out for butterfly species like Small Stiped Swordtail, Albatross White, Bright Bush Blue, Pea Blue, Large White-spots Skipper, Friar, Green-Banded Swallowtail, etc. Lunch at the lodge and then later, we could head out again if we so wish.

Look out for bird species like Yellow-throated Greenbul, Snowy-headed Robin-Chat, Brown-throated Wattle-eye, African Blue-flycatcher, White-tailed Blue-flycatcher, a couple of Sunbirds, Bocage’s Bush-shrike, a couple of Weavers, Red-headed Bluebill, Firefinches, Mannikins, Canaries, Seedeaters and African Golden-breasted Bunting among others tend to feed from.

Day 12: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Second day in Bwindi Impenetrable forest and so same routine looking for opportunities for photographs as we walk along the main trail that used to be a road through the forest to the southern part of Bwindi.  Lunch at the lodge and then later, we could head out again if we so wish

Day 13: Transfer to Rwakobo Rock

After breakfast, we start the drive to Rwakobo Rock to break the journey back to Entebbe looking out for butterflies’ photography opportunities

Dinner and Overnight at Rwakobo Rock (Full Board).

Day 14: Transfer back to Entebbe 

Breakfast and then start on the return journey back to Entebbe. Overnight at Lake Victoria View (Bed and Breakfast). 

Day 15: Departure

Breakfast at leisure, clean the machines, pack the bags lunch and then transfer to Entebbe International Airport in time for your return flight.
